Jane Ingram Allen was selected for the fellowship award Artist-in-Residency this year at Pond Farm Pottery, Guerneville, CA. Jane has been an artist in residence at Pond Farm, just outside Armstrong Woods, in the Austin Creek State Parks Recreation Area, from August 8 – August 28, 2026. Jane has been creating new works and experimenting with some new techniques in her hand papermaking art inspired by the trees and beautiful nature surrounding the Pond Farm Pottery as well as its rich heritage and history. Pond Farm is the home and studio of Bauhaus-trained potter Marguerite Wildenhain and now on the national historic register. For more information about Pond Farm Pottery see the website at https://pondfarmpottery.org

Here is a photo from my residency at Pond Farm taken by one of the Park staff. This image shows some of my process and experiments with paper casting. I also tried cyanotype on handmade paper and other things during my time at Pond Farm, and I will be posting more images soon on this site.

Jane putting her handmade paper to dry on the trunk of a large coastal live oak tree growing near the deck of the Pond Farm guest house where she has set up a temporary papermaking studio. When the paper dries it will be removed capturing the wonderful bark texture, pattern and color from the living tree…which will be transformed into a sculptural work. In the background you can see the Pond Farm barn studio.
